The forest at Panama Rocks has been recognized and included in
The Sierra Club Guide to the Ancient Forests of the Northeast
There are 200 to 300 year old Hemlocks, and seven other species
of venerable trees, including beech, black cherry, red maple, and
sugar maple, some trees having diameters of over three feet.
The way that tree roots grow down and around the rocks
adds a special uniqueness and character to this forest.
