FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What can I do at Panama Rocks? Most of our guests come to hike and explore the rocks. You can choose your own adventure - stay on the main trail, wander along side paths and passageways, or use your hands and explore on the rocks and through the crevices! We also offer glamping and camping, festivals and events, and we can host parties and groups (think of us for your next birthday, reunion, or special event)!
What's the trail like? If you can walk about one-mile on uneven ground you should be able to walk the main trail at Panama Rocks (we have had guests of all ages visit - from newborns to 100)! The trail does go up and down hill and has bumpy sections with roots and rocks. Wear footwear suitable for hiking – we strongly advise against wearing flip-flops, cowboy boots, or high heels. The trail is not stroller accessible nor wheelchair accessible; we recommend a backpack type carrier for small children.
Do I have to climb? Not at all! You do not have to climb to walk the main trail, but you are welcome to explore the rock formations where you feel comfortable!
Is it family friendly? Yes! Most of our guests are families with children BUT you must use reasonable caution. If you decide to hike on top of our rock formations (and you do not have to) there are cliffs and drop-offs. You can choose to stay on our lower trail if you prefer. We encourage all guests to be careful, stay aware of their surroundings, and supervise children at all times. Guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Where is Panama Rocks? Panama Rocks park is in Chautauqua County - just 15 minutes from Chautauqua Lake, 45 minutes from Erie, and 90 minutes from Buffalo. Our address is 11 Rock Hill Road, Panama, NY, 14767.
When is it open/how much does it cost?: Hours and admission rates (and park rules) are online here. The Panama Rocks trail is open daily from the first weekend of May through the last weekend of October (10am to 5pm - last admission at 4pm). Panama Rocks is a privately operated park funded by guest admission since 1885 (thank you for your support - we operate on 10% of the budget of the average New York State Park)!
Do I need reservations? You do NOT need reservations to hike or explore Panama Rocks. We take admission at the gate when you arrive and offer memberships online! If you are interested in glamping or camping, reservations are required.
Are picnic tables available? Picnic tables are available on a first-come first-served basis for groups who have purchased admission. You may also reserve our recreation hall or picnic tables in advance.
What about parking? We have a gravel parking lot just up the driveway and in front of the barn. We can accommodate busses and RVs, but we appreciate a call to let us know you are coming! Please check-in at the park office after parking.
Can I bring my pet? Friendly dogs are allowed but they must be kept on leashes at all times. We ask that guests with dogs not to take their pets by the cliffs on the upper trail.

Why is there an admission fee?
While State parks are funded by taxes, Panama Rocks has been funded by guest admissions since 1886 - we have been open that long because our guests feel the experience is well worth the admission. If you are unsure, we suggest checking out independent guest reviews on Google and TripAdvisor.
